How To Set Goals

How To Set Goals?

As things or milestones, you want to achieve in life or business, setting goals for yourself or your business is just as important as drinking water and just as necessary as breathing in oxygen. In order to give yourself direction, and succeed in life –no matter what your definition of success might be- you need to come up with a list of goals on a regular basis.

Traditionally, goals revolve around business, careers, health, hobbies, social practices, morals and emotional state as well. However, they are not limited to this list; a goal can be in regards to anything under the sun. Thus, in order to add a sense of direction, focus and motivation in your life, set goals.

Tips on how to set them

There are a few things that you have to be mindful of when creating goals for yourself. When you know what you want from life this is when you can set goals that will help you accomplish your objectives. After you figure out your priorities, you are in a better position to set milestones for your future.

When you are setting a goal for yourself, ensure that it clearly highlights what the end result should be, how you will go about achieving it and how long should it take. Creating detail specific goals increases the likelihood of actually achieving them in the long term.

Another aspect is ensuring that your end point can be measured. Creating a vague goal like ‘I will exercise more’ opens up opportunities for slacking. However, if your goal was something like ‘I will go to the gym for 30 minutes, 3 days a week for the next 3 months’ is much more motivating and authoritative.

While everyone has a list of extraordinary long term goals, it is equally as important to have short term goals that can be achieved successfully. Setting yourself up with unrealistic goals that your environment, abilities, status or lack of time will not be able to achieve is counter intuitive.

The best way to set goals is to set them with a specific deadline. This way you are highly motivated, determined and focused on achieving it until the last date. Then, as you move along creating more, you can test yourself with different time limits.
